Developmental Team (Fish and Bronze)

The focus of the developmental team is on basic skill acquisition, stroke technique, and cultivating a life-long passion for the sport of swimming. Swimmers will be introduced to the basics of the sport, including legal turns, stroke timing, and efficient kicking. Fish practices are held 3 days per week for 1 hour with each swimmer typically attending 2-3 practices per week. Bronze practices are held 4 days per week for 1 hour with each swimmer typically attending 3-4 practices per week. Meet attendance is encouraged but not required.

 Fish to Bronze Requirements

  1. Legal execution of the 4 competitive strokes (fly, back, breast, free)

  2. Legal execution of competitive turns (flip turns, 2 hand touches, etc.)

  3. Demonstration of streamline position

  4. Demonstration of streamline forward dive

  5. Permission of both Fish and Bronze Coaches

Bronze to Silver Requirements

  1. All of the Fish to Bronze requirements

  2. Consistent demonstration of streamline pushoff and dive

  3. Ability to read pace clock and determine rest intervals

  4. Ability to listen and focus during practice

  5. Permission of both Bronze and Silver Coaches

 

Age Group Team (Silver/Gold)

The focus of the Age Group Team continues to be on skill acquisition, stroke technique, and fun. Swimmers work to perfect basic skills such as streamlining, turns, and breath control while being introduced to advanced skills such as interval training and race strategy. Conditioning becomes more important at the Age Group level and regular practice attendance is strongly encouraged. Practices for the Silver Group are held 5 days per week for 1 ¼ hours with the expectation that swimmers attend 4 days per week. Practices for the Gold Group are held 6 days per week for 1 ½ hours with the expectation that swimmers attend 4-5 days per week. Regular meet attendance is strongly encouraged.

 Silver to Gold Requirements

  1. Consistent demonstration of basic skills (streamlines, turns, breath control)

  2. Demonstration of advanced skills (interval training, race strategies)

  3. Demonstration of Leadership Qualities

  4. Ability to handle increased workload (Minimum Age 11)

  5. Recommendation and permission from Silver and Gold Coaches

Gold to Senior II Requirements

  1. Consistent demonstration of advanced skills (interval training, race strategies)

  2. Demonstration of commitment and dedication needed at the Senior Level

  3. Consistent practice attendance

  4. Demonstration of leadership qualities

  5. Mental and physical maturity needed at the Senior Level (Minimum Age 13)

 Move-up Sets:

  1. 15 x 100 Free on 1:30 or 8 x 200 Free on 3:00

 

Senior Team (Senior II/Senior I)

The Senior Team is the highest level a swimmer can reach in our program. The primary focus of this team is on elevated training in order to become the best athlete possible. Swimmers will learn advanced race strategies, goal setting and attainment, and self-motivation. Regular practice attendance is expected for Senior II and required for Senior I athletes. Senior I Group practice attendance and performance will be evaluated on a regular basis and group members may be moved to Senior II if appropriate. Practices are run 6 days per week with 2 hours of swimming and 30 minutes of dry-land training. Competition at the highest qualification level is expected with the highest importance placed on A/B/C Finals, State, Regional and National meets.

 

Senior II to Senior I

  1. 80% practice attendance
  2. Ability to work hard on a consistent basis
  3. Dedication and Commitment to NHCP and the sport of swimming
  4. Physical and Mental Maturity to handle increased expectations
  5. Demonstration of self-motivation
  6. Willingness to compete at the highest qualification level
  7. Minimum age of 14 Years Old

  1. 20 x 100 Free on 1:20 or 10 x 200 Free on 2:45
  2. 8 x 200 I.M. on 3:00
